Start your morning with breakfast at O’Farrell Sisters, a hidden gem tucked away off the beaten path. If you’re craving something sweet, grab a donut at Spudnutz, or swing by Monarch Art Café for coffee, a pastry, or even some ice cream to kick off your day.

 

After breakfast, head to Arnolds Park to explore the newly renovated boardwalk. Stroll along the lake, take a tour on the iconic Queen II paddleboat, or pick up a treat from Topog. For thrill-seekers, ride the Legend, the 13th oldest wooden roller coaster in the world. If relaxing is more your vibe, sit back with a nutty bar on the beautiful new pier and enjoy the views.

 

 

Okoboji is packed with history. Make time to visit the local museums and discover the rich stories of this lakeside community.

Next, head to the Central Emporium for shopping, dining, and treats from the candy store.

 

Grab a coffee at Arnold’s Perk and explore downtown Arnolds Park. You’ll find rooftop restaurants, great bars, and even outdoor axe-throwing for a unique experience.

Classic car lovers, you’ll want to visit Okoboji Classic Cars. Step back in time in their incredible indoor showroom, featuring over 70 classic cars surrounded by a 28,000-square-foot mural depicting a 1960s downtown Spencer and Arnolds Park.

 

Just five minutes south, you’ll find Three Sons, a store with two floors of shoes, hats, Okoboji-branded apparel, and more. Learn about the history of the fictional University of Okoboji, and don’t miss trying their hilarious “entrance exam.”

For more shopping, head to Barn Swallow in Okoboji, where you’ll find a massive selection of unique gifts, jewelry, books, home décor, and Okoboji-branded clothing.

When it’s time for lunch, check out Snappers for lakeside dining. Located next to the famous Barefoot Bar, Snappers has a large patio, great food, and a laid-back vibe, perfect for relaxing by the water.

 

Art enthusiasts will love the Pearson Lakes Art Center, showcasing galleries, local artwork, and even a children’s art museum downstairs. For nature lovers, the Dickinson County Nature Center is a fantastic spot, especially for families with kids.  If you can plan your trip around it, catching a performance at the Okoboji Summer Theatre is a must-do.

For dinner, head to The Inn Hotel, where history and luxury meet. Once the social hub of Okoboji, this restored gem exudes charm. Enjoy dinner and handcrafted cocktails at The Tavern, known for its vintage yet luxurious vibe.

 

When it’s time to unwind, Okoboji has excellent lodging options. Stay at the Vintage Block Inn with its suite-style rooms and outdoor pool. Be sure to check out the The Inn Hotel full of rich Okoboji history.

A Visit to Spirit Lake

Welcome to Spirit Lake, Iowa, a charming destination with something for everyone. Let’s dive into this adventure and explore the best of what this lakeside town has to offer.

First, breakfast. Head over to Main Street for a cozy morning meal at one of Spirit Lake’s local gems or grab a quick coffee and pastry from a nearby café. While you’re out, take some time to explore the shops in town. Allure & Co. is a must-visit, it houses a yoga and barre studio upstairs and a boutique on the main level, offering handbags, home décor, furniture, clothes, jewelry, accessories, and plenty of cute Okoboji souvenirs.

After breakfast, take a stroll through downtown Spirit Lake and check out the local shops. Visit Megan & Co. for herbal apothecary items and Timeless Consignments for vintage treasures. There’s so much to explore.

When lunchtime rolls around, head to Burger and Company. Enjoy a burger and a shake on their outdoor patio, perfect for soaking up the Spirit Lake atmosphere.

For a sweet treat, stop by Goodies, a local favorite for handmade fudge, truffles, candies, and ice cream. It’s a must for satisfying your sweet tooth.

Spend your afternoon relaxing on the patio at Okoboji Brewing Company, where you can sample local beers and wines. It’s a great spot to unwind and soak in the laid-back vibes of Spirit Lake.

When it’s time for dinner, head to The Spillway. Enjoy a delicious meal, and don’t forget to grab some ice cream for dessert.

End your evening with a trip to Superior 71 Drive-In for a classic night at the movies. There’s nothing like watching a film under the stars to cap off a perfect day.
