  • While in town stop by Anderson Wildlife Refuge, featuring a trail that run 0.8 miles along a retired train track. With a forest-like atmosphere you feel much further out of town than you really are.

Afternoon 
  • Spend the afternoon exploring the Raccoon River Wildlife Area and Rainbow Bend. Located along the North Raccoon River, this scenic area provides excellent opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, photography, and enjoying Iowa’s natural beauty.

  • The area offers a quieter outdoor experience and is perfect for visitors looking to escape the crowds and spend time in nature. Rainbow Bend also features primitive campsites for those seeking a more secluded camping experience.

  • While visiting, take a short walk to the nearby Marsh Rainbow Arch Bridge. Built in 1914, the historic bridge spans the North Raccoon River and remains one of Calhoun County’s most recognizable landmarks. Local legend says the bridge is haunted by a chocolate-loving spirit, but today it’s best known as a unique photo opportunity and a fun piece of local folklore.
