As a busy work-from-home mom of three, I’m always looking for places that help our family slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the outdoors without requiring a complicated vacation plan. Littlefield Recreation Area near Exira was one of those unexpected discoveries that completely exceeded my expectations. Tucked just a few minutes off Interstate 80, this county park offers beautiful lakeside views, family-friendly outdoor recreation, and some of the nicest cabins I’ve found anywhere in Iowa. We spent our time exploring the park, enjoying the playgrounds, relaxing by the water, and watching incredible sunsets from the cabin porch. What stood out most was the welcoming atmosphere, from the friendly campers to the park staff who clearly take pride in creating a place families can enjoy together. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, gathering with friends, or simply looking for an affordable way to experience Iowa’s outdoors in comfort, Littlefield proves that some of the best adventures are found just off the beaten path.
